Getting started

From a new account to a licensed computer in a few minutes, then seats and colleagues for your company.

  1. Check the computer

You need 64-bit Windows with a supported version of Civil 3D (the Downloads page lists them), and an internet connection to sign in. The full requirements are on the Downloads page.

  2. Create your account

Create an account on the licence portal with your work email address and your company's name, then confirm the address from the email we send you.

The person who creates your company's account is its owner: they buy seats and invite colleagues.

Is your company already a customer? Wait for the owner's invitation instead, and choose your name and password from its link.

  3. Download and install

Close Civil 3D, then run an installer from Downloads. Each release comes in two:

    InstallerInstalls forNeeds
    ...-SingleUser.msiYou onlyNo administrator rights
...-MultiUser.msiEveryone who uses the computerAdministrator rights

Setup lists each supported Civil 3D version as a feature; keep the ones installed on the computer. A newer release installs over an older one, so you never need to uninstall first.

  4. Sign in from Civil 3D

Start Civil 3D and the Britech tabs appear on the ribbon. Type BRSignIn and sign in with your account.

    • A new account starts a free 30-day trial on that computer, with every command. Each account and each computer has one trial.
    • If your company has seats, signing in takes one of them for that computer.

Type BRLicenseStatus at any time to see the computer's licence.

  5. Buy seats

The owner signs in to the licence portal and opens Buy seats; the plans are on Pricing. A seat is one computer at a time, and all of a company's seats share one term. The seats are ready as soon as the payment arrives, and we email the owner to say so.

Each computer then takes a seat when someone signs in on it.

  6. Invite colleagues

On the licence portal's dashboard, the owner invites each colleague by email. The invitation link works for 7 days: your colleague chooses a name and password, installs Britech and signs in from Civil 3D.

  7. Move a seat to another computer

Type BRSignOut on the old computer, then BRSignIn on the new one. A lost or broken computer keeps its seat until the owner frees it from the licence portal's dashboard, or until it has gone unused for 45 days.

  8. Work offline

The licence renews itself whenever Civil 3D starts with a connection. Without one, a computer keeps working for up to 44 days after it last reached the licence server; after that, it asks to connect once before commands run again.

  9. Stay up to date

Britech checks for a new release once a day, downloads it, and installs it when Civil 3D closes. To check now, type BRCheckForUpdates.

  10. Uninstall

Type BRSignOut first, so the computer gives its seat back. Then remove Britech in Windows Settings, under Apps.
